6 Ways to Experience the Christ in You

Posted on August 29, 2011

She was only twelve. But the illness was too much. Her father begged the man to come and do something, to raise her from the dead if he could. Desperate fathers do desperate things.

Jesus came, but as He was passing through a crowd, a woman saw Him. She pushed her way towards Him and was able to graze the hem of His garment.

Almost instantly, Jesus stopped. “Someone touched Me.” His disciples looked at the crowd around Him and weren’t sure what to say. Everybody was crowding around Him, obviously touching Him.

The woman came forward and confessed that she had been sick for 12 years. She spent everything she had on her illness. It was she who had touched the hem of His garment and had been healed. She also confessed that after touching Him, she was changed.

The Crowd and the Woman

The crowds were obviously touching Him. Yet it was only this one woman that really, actually, genuinely touched Jesus.

Many of us are content to hear about Jesus. We are happy to crowd around Him, be associated with Him, and press on Him. But how many of us actually touch Him or experience Jesus in a meaningful way?

This woman really touched Him. It was not even technically a touch. But she got a real experience of not just Christ’s healing power, but of Christ Himself. She was alive and she could tell inside of her that something had changed. This is an example of an experience of Christ.

Christ is in You

For those that want to experience Christ, I give you this good news: Christ is in you. Right now. “Christ in you” (Col 1:27); “Christ is in you” (Rom 8:10); “It pleased God…to reveal His Son in me.” (Gal 1:15-16).

Here is a quote from Witness Lee that I like:

The most precious result of our faith in Christ is that we receive Him into us.

Christ is actually in us. That’s the fact. But how does you access, tap into, experience, touch this “Christ in you”?

6 Ways to Experience the Christ in You

1. Receive Him.   Call on Jesus’ name. He will come into you. To experience Christ within, you must first receive Christ. If you have believe into Christ, you have received Him as well.

2. Be Baptized.   Galatians 3:27 says that those who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Baptism is a very important part of experiencing Christ. Ask someone who has been baptized in he experienced Christ at that time. I’m sure he will confirm this.

3. Remember the Facts.   Galatians 2:20 says “I am crucified with Christ.” This is your status. Maybe it’s not your status on Facebook, but to God, this is your status. What does it mean to be crucified with Christ? The cross includes suffering, but it mostly means death. You are dead. All your thoughts, all your feelings, all your decisions, everything. Dead. You are crucified with Christ. Only the Christ in you is the one that is raised from the dead. His thoughts, feelings, and decisions are all that’s left. Satan throws around a lot of propaganda. Remember the facts.

4. Let Christ Make His Home in Your Heart.   Ephesians 3:17 says “That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith.”  Christ’s home is where the heart is. Allow Him to have room in you to do what He wants. Open all the doors of your heart to Him. If He tells you, “Apologize,” say “Amen.” Give Him the room to do what He likes. If you obey, you will really touch Christ.

5. Take Christ’s Feeling Instead of Your Own.   Paul said in Philippians 1:8: “I long after you all in the inward parts of Christ Jesus.” We feel a certain way about things, people, and activities. We may dislike, love, or be apathetic toward them. It is very possible that Christ does not feel the same way. Ask Him, “Lord, how do you feel about this? I want my inward parts to match Yours.”

6. Take the Mind of Christ.   Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” We all have certain opinions and perspectives on things. They may be backed up by years of  careful observations and life experiences. But eventually, our opinions and rampant thought processes become an obstacle to our experience of Christ. Solution? Read the Bible. Christ cleanses the church by the washing of the water in the word. The Bible will renew your mind. It will “let this mind be in you.”
